Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) After Failed Heller for Achalasia

Ping-Hong Zhou, MD performs per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) after failed heller for achalasia. The patient is a 74 year old man with PMH significant for CAD s/p DES with subsequent CABG & aortic valve replacement, HTN, and COPD presents for treatment of achalasia. Durration of symptoms has been 72 months and he has a ASA classification of III. Prior treatment consisting of robotic assisted heller myotomy with posterior fundoplication in 2013 and an Eckardt score of 6.
